POSITION: Dairy Stocker DEPARTMENT: Dairy Department REPORTS TO: Perishable Manager, Market Director POSITION SUMMARY: To meet the customers needs by maintaining adequate quantities of products and keeping shelves filled for customer purchase, (ordering product as directed by management). The stock clerk plays an important role in merchandising products in their departments. Position Accountability: 1. Ensure Customer Service is Always a # 1 Priority within the dairy department and throughout the market. 2. Maintain an awareness and concern for the company’s interest and investments at all times, by conforming to the technical and ethical standards of Tom’s Food Markets. 3. Know the location of products in the Market. 4. Know what items are on sale or at a special price, and know what the price is. 5. Assist department manager in filling “special orders” for customers. 6. Perform all functions of the position in a positive, friendly, cheerful manner. Implement 100% customer satisfaction policy to the greatest extent at all times. 7. Comply with all company safety and accident prevention policies, reporting all accident and providing related information to the manager in charge. 8. Comply with security procedures in accordance with company policies and directives.

Responsibilities Include:

Stock Clerk Duties:

1. Assist in unloading and checking in product from the delivery truck, using proper equipment in a responsible manner.

2. Open cartons according to trained procedures, using authorized safety cutter.

3. Price items, using correct pricing procedures and proper equipment as directed by management. Report price discrepancies to proper personnel.

4. Stock shelves and displays with product as directed by management.

5. Transfer product from coolers and freezers to the sales floor as directed by management.

6. Monitor assigned aisle and displays, to ensure that shelves and displays are kept full of product throughout the shift.

7. Ensure proper rotation of product and work to minimize backstock.

8. Condition aisles throughout the day, making shelves and displays attractive and eye catching. (Condition means: also called “facing or blocking”, this consists of bringing product to the front of the shelf, turning it so the front label is in full view, and removing damaged product from the shelf.)

9. Remove damaged, spoiled and outdated product from shelves, coolers and displays as necessary.

10. Assist checkout area if necessary for price checks, product questions, bagging, etc., in a friendly, cheerful manner.

11. Place orders for product in assigned aisle as needed and as directed by management.

12. Report “out of stock” on advertised items to the Department Manager or manager in charge.

13. Record and prepare damaged product for return as instructed by Department Manager.

Human Resources

1. Comply with all company policies, standards, programs, and directives pertaining to the grocery department.

2. Build and maintain customer and associate goodwill by carrying out duties in a cheerful, courteous and efficient manner. Provide exceptional customer service to all customers.

3. Be a “team player.” Remember that our success will depend upon our ability to work well together.

4. All other duties as assigned.


1. Accept responsibility for cleanliness and organization of the Dairy Department, (sales floor, back room area, and assigned aisles) as directed by management.

2. Keep aisle clear of boxes, carts and debris.

3. Break down cardboard boxes and place in baler, (you must be 18 years or older to do this.)

4. Maintain equipment in good working order.

5. Notify management of any equipment problems.


1. Understand and abide by all safety policies and regulations of the company.

2. Use and maintain all Dairy Department equipment in a safe manner, according to correct procedures.

3. Report all accidents, injuries, hazardous situations or equipment problems to Market Management.

4. Be familiar with market layout, location of safety and emergency equipment.

Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand:

1) Instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools

2) Company handbooks, policies and procedures and

3) Other written job related documents including postings on company bulletin boards.

Ability to fill out forms properly and compose and write reports.

Be able to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets the minimum standards for productivity, accuracy, cleanliness, harmony and safety established by the company.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, and use the hands to handle; fingers to feel objects, tools or controls.

The associate must frequently walk, talk, or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally the associate must crouch or kneel.

The associate must occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds carrying boxes or records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight.

Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
