It’s an exciting time at Tom’s Food Markets. Our continued sales growth has enabled us to invest strongly in our future. Wages have been adjusted throughout the company to strengthen our workforce, significant investments were made in new equipment and market resets in 2020 with exciting changes on the horizon for 2021. We have recently added several management trainee and Tom’s Xpress positions to the company. All have been tremendous additions to our management and market teams. We need to prepare our Tom’s workforce for the future. By investing in the development of our people, we ensure that we have talent that will lead us forward. That is the primary reason we have created several key “trainee” positions that will train and be prepared to step into their own full management role when the time comes. This position pays $647.32 for a 45 hour work week (paid weekly) with a full benefit package.


Responsibilities Include:

POSITION SUMMARY: To assist in any way possible the total operation of the deli department, specifically by serving customers, and preparing, packaging, dating, pricing, and merchandising deli products for all markets.

Position Accountability:

1. Ensure Customer Service is Always a # 1 Priority within the deli department and throughout the market.

2. Maintain an awareness and concern for the company’s interest and investments at all times, by conforming to the technical and ethical standards of Tom’s Food Markets.

3. Know the location of products in the Market.

4. Know what items are on sale or at a special price, and know what the price is.

5. Assist department manager in filling “special orders” for customers from all markets.

6. Perform all functions of the position with a sense of urgency, in a positive, friendly, cheerful manner. Implement 100% customer satisfaction policy to the greatest extent at all times.

7. Comply with all company safety and accident prevention policies, reporting all accident and providing related information to the manager in charge.

8. Comply with security procedures in accordance with company policies and directives.

Deli Service Clerk Duties:

1. Assist in the preparation of deli products; salads, sandwiches, and hot case items for all markets as needed.

2. Understand proper use of the scale, ensuring that prices, weights and tares are accurate.

3. Cut, slice and package meats and cheese according to training procedures, and at customer request.

4. Ensure product freshness through rotation, proper code dating and merchandising according to company policy and procedures.

5. Use suggestive selling and product knowledge to maximize sales.

6. Monitor all product for quality and freshness, removing outdated product from the cases.

7. Understand and maintain Temperature Log Sheet and location.

8. Ensure effective merchandising of deli products through proper stocking, rotating and arranging items in the Deli cases.

9. May be responsible for ordering or maintaining adequate supplies related to the packaging of prepared Deli items.

10. Understand and abide by all government rules, regulation and standards for the deli department.

11. Comply with the Food Safety Code within the department.

Human Resources

1. Comply with all company policies, standards, programs, and directives pertaining to the deli department.

2. Build and maintain customer and associate goodwill by carrying out duties in a cheerful, courteous and efficient manner. Provide exceptional customer service to all customers.

3. Be a “team player.” Remember that our success will depend upon our ability to work well together.

4. All other duties as assigned.

Housekeeping:

1. Accept responsibility for cleanliness and organization of the Deli Department as directed by management.

2. Use cleaners and sanitizers regularly, in accordance with all company and government standards.

3. Assist in the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of deli equipment as needed, or as directed by management.

4. Keep deli case, tables, display shelving, coolers and freezers clean and free of debris.

5. Maintain all deli equipment in good working order.

6. Notify management of any equipment problems, temperature variations of coolers, freezers, oven, fryer, etc.

Safety

1. Understand and abide by all safety policies and regulations of the company.

2. Use and maintain all Deli Department equipment in a safe manner, according to correct procedures.

3. Report all accidents, injuries, hazardous situations or equipment problems to Market Management.

4. Be familiar with market layout, location of safety and emergency equipment.

Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand:

1) Instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools

2) Company handbooks, policies and procedures and

3) Other written job related documents including postings on company bulletin boards.

Ability to fill out forms properly and compose and write reports.

Be able to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets the minimum standards for productivity, accuracy, cleanliness, harmony and safety established by the company.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, and use the hands to handle; fingers to feel objects, tools or controls.

The associate must frequently walk, talk, or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally the associate must crouch or kneel.

The associate must occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds carrying boxes or records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight.

Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
